Evril Clayton
Managing Director of Marketable Investments
The Rockefeller University
Since July of 2022, Clayton has served as a Managing Director of Marketable Investment for Rockefeller University, a graduate only institution focusing primarily on the biological and medical sciences and providing doctoral and postdoctoral education. In this role he acts as a key member of the University’s investment team with primary responsibility for the oversight of its marketable portfolio partnerships, In this role he acts as a key member of the including carrying out due diligence for new and existing managers, working with analysts, interacting with the University’s Investment Committee and collaborating with the Chief Investment Officer on the investment of the overall endowment portfolio.
Prior to joining Rockefeller University, he spent 11 years at the New York State Common Retirement Fund as a Director, Global Alpha Equity and a Deputy Director of Global Equity. In these roles he oversaw six investment professionals, drove the management of both the passive and active equities portfolios investment pipeline, led the effort to build out the public equity sustainable investment portfolio, and provided direct oversight of the Global Equity Team’s in-house Public Equity Portfolio ($82 billion) and External Public Equity Portfolio ($60 billion). He also was involved in all aspects of external equity transactions, including origination, due diligence, legal negotiation, and presentation for approval.
At Kuramo Capital Management, Clayton was an Associate Director leading efforts in conducting new manager searches in Private Equity, Hedge Funds, and Public Equity and focused on investment opportunities across the continent of Africa. He also prepared quarterly written reports on three investment pools totaling $600 million.
From 2007-2010, he was a Senior Investment Analyst at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In this role he supported the evaluation of Private Equity and Hedge Fund managers and managed portfolio exposures and risks for a $800 million portfolio.
Clayton began his career, following receiving a BS in Business Administration, cum laude, from SUNY-Potsdam, as a Financial Advisor in Merrill Lynch’s Global Wealth Management Division. He currently lives in New York with wife and four children. In his spare time he likes to play golf, read, and travel.
